In Psalm 109 David is speaking about his adversaries who are coming against him without any cause. They have repaid him evil for good. David makes the following observation about those that are attacking him:
"He also loved cursing, so it came to him; And he did not delight in blessing, so it was far from him" (Psalm 109:17).
Those who curses others, those curses will in someway come back upon them, and since they withholds blessings, they will not receive blessings themselves.
I do not want to use my mouth to speak unkindly or negatively about others. If I expect God and others to bless me, then I need to take the lead in blessing others. One of my favorite and most challenging verses on this topic is Ephesians 4:29 ...
"Let no unwholesome word proceed from your mouth, but only such a word as is good for edification according to the need of the moment, so that it will give grace to those who hear."
Another challenging verse is Ephesians 5:4 ...
"and there must be no filthiness and silly talk, or coarse jesting, which are not fitting, but rather giving of thanks."
Does our conversation build-up others?
Does our conversation release God's grace into the life of others?
Does our conversation express thankfulness to God and men?
It should!
