In the Bible it says that the return of Jesus Christ will be at a time “like the days of Noah”. What was going on during that time? They were “eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage” (Matt 24:37-38).
It goes on in Matthew 24 and says that people “did not understand until the flood came and took them all away” (Matt 24:39). Wow! That would be disturbing and would certainly ruin a perfectly good day. And yet today, there are millions of people around the world, including many Christians, that have no idea that time is moving on.
I certainly am not a conspiracy theorist, and neither am I a doomsday prophet, however, it is difficult to ignore the many difficulties we see in the world today. Our world is filled with national disasters, wars, terrorism, the rise of anti-Semitisms increasing intolerance of Christianity, and the list goes on.
Perhaps this is why Jesus said, “therefore be on the alert, and for this reason you also must be ready” (Matt 24:42, 44).
How can we be “alert” and what must we do to “be ready”? These are challenging questions that I believe we as Christians must wrestle with.
I personally do not believe God is finished with our nation, nor do I believe that we are beyond the point of no return. It is my hope that we will still see a mighty revival in our country however, we must ask ourselves how we can prepare and position ourselves for the days in which we live and the days that are yet to come.
In Matthew 26:41 Jesus encourages His disciples to “keep watching and praying.”
Let me leave you with these questions:
1. How can we be “alert”?
2. What do we need to be doing to “be ready”?
3. How do we prepare for the days that lay ahead of us?
4. How do we “keep watch and pray”?
Let me encourage you to read Matthew 24 and other portions of the Bible to better understand God’s heart for the days in which we live.
Time is moving on!
Pastor Jim Maher
Pastor Jim has left a great legacy behind. Many of the values that we embrace as a church today are a result of Pastor Jim’s ministry.
When I heard that Pastor Jim had been killed in an automobile accident, it reminded me of the great influence he had in my life and in the life of this church. Pastor Jim may be gone in the natural, but in the Spirit his legacy lives on in our hearts.
It is with great sadness that we release Pastor Jim into the hands of God, and yet we know he is rejoicing in God’s presence today.
Our prayers are with Pastor Jim’s wife, Elizabeth, and the rest of the family.
