More so than perhaps any other time of year, Christmas is a time when we think about giving gifts to other people. During the Christmas season we see many acts of kindness and charity. It is a time when we show our appreciation of others through the giving of gifts and the sending of Christmas cards.
The most important gift of all, however, is the gift that God gave to mankind. Christmas is a time to celebrate the birth of the Christ child. In all the glitter and celebration of Christmas, it is sometimes easy to overlook the significance the the event that is central to the season.
What is Christmas about?
Christmas is about salvation. Speaking about Mary the mother of Jesus, the Bible says in Matthew 1:12 …
“She will bear a Son; and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.”
Jesus was born to save us from our sins.
Christmas is about deliverance. Looking at Luke 4:18, Jesus said …
THE SPIRIT OF THE LORD IS UPON ME, BECAUSE HE ANOINTED ME TO PREACH THE GOSPEL TO THE POOR. HE HAS SENT ME TO PROCLAIM RELEASE TO THE CAPTIVES, AND RECOVERY OF SIGHT TO THE BLIND, TO SET FREE THOSE WHO ARE OPPRESSED.
Jesus came to set us free from sin, sickness, and the oppression of the enemy.
Christmas is about eternity. In Romans 6:23, it says …
For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Jesus was born to die so you and I could live forever with God.
Christmas is a time for-giving. God gave to us His love in the form of His only Son, Jesus Christ, so our sins could be forgiven and we could enjoy all the benefits of eternal life.
That is worth celebrating!

Have a very Merry Christmas!
