"Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel," which is translated, "God with us." (Mat 1:23)
God dwelling with man, walking among us, sharing every aspect of humanity. It’s easy to take this profound truth for granted after 2000 years, but we should never lose our amazement over this. Imagine the apostles and religious leaders trying to process something that had never happened before in the history of mankind. This is what we celebrate at Christmas, the day that split history, the day God came to live with His creation.
Jesus takes it a step further when He tells the apostles that He has to go so that they can have something even better than God with us; God in us! (John 16:7) Incredible! So as you enjoy all the lights and glory of Christmas, let it remind you that because we have Christ in us, we continually hope for His glory revealed through us. (Col 1:27)
We also hope in the promise of His return, when He will be in us and with us, the Righteous King ruling the earth with justice. I can’t even imagine how awesome this will be. But as I anticipate the fresh start of a coming new year, I can rejoice in the certain promise of a new earth in which righteousness dwells. (2 Pe 3:13)
Happy Holydays! (misspelling intended)
