How Important is it to Pray With Others?

In 1 Thessalonians 5:17, Paul exhorts believers to “pray without ceasing.” Private, personal prayer should be an important discipline in every believers life. But what about gathering together with others to pray? How important is that?

Jesus makes an interesting statement in Matthew:

19 "Again I say to you, that if two of you agree on earth about anything that they may ask, it shall be done for them by My Father who is in heaven.
20 "For where two or three have gathered together in My name, I am there in their midst." (Mt 18:19-20, NASU)

There is great power when believers gather together, in agreement, for the purpose of prayer. When Peter was released from prison by an angel of God, he went to “the house of Mary, the mother of John who was also called Mark, where many were gathered together and were praying” (Act 12:12, NASU). The church had gathered together to pray for Peter’s safety and his release from prison. God heard and honored their repairs. In Acts 1, after the resurrection of the Lord, 120 believers had gathered together in an upper room where they were, “continually devoting themselves to prayer” (Act 1:14, NASU).

The church has always seen corporate prayer as an important part of a believers life.

Let me encourage you to take advantage of one of our corporate prayer opportunities. I have listed them below:

MyHop Meeting Friday, September 3rd, 7PM, at COTRM (1st Friday of each month)
Tuesday Morning Prayer 7-9am at COTRM
Thursday Morning Prayer 7-9am at COTRM
Sunday Morning Prayer 7-9:45am at COTRM

This Friday night COTRM is hosting the monthly MyHop prayer meeting. This is a great opportunity to gather together with Christians from churches around the county to offer up our prayers to God. Along with much time for prayer, there will be great worship and an anointed word.

See you Friday!
