What Can I Offer God?

Have you ever wondered what gift to give to someone who seems to have everything?

David poses to us a similar question in Psalm 116:12…
"What can I offer the Lord for all He has done for me?" (NLT)

Has there ever been someone in your life who has done so much for you and blessed you in so many ways that you do not know how you can possible bless them in return? As David considered all that God had done for him, he wondered what he could possibly offer back to God that would be of any value.

In the next verse in Psa 116:13 we find David’s response…
"I will lift up the cup of salvation and praise the Lord’s name for saving me."  (NLT)

David realized that the only thing that he could give back to God was his own devotion and thanksgiving for the incredible salvation that God had given to him. Have we taken time to reflect on all that God has done for us, from the incredible salvation He has given us to the many blessings that he has poured out upon our lives?

What can we give to God in return? Paul tells us in Romans 12:1 that the only true worship we can offer to God is to present to Him our lives as a living sacrifice. In other words, what we can offer to God for all He has done for us is our very lives. “Lord, here I am, how can I serve you? My time and my resources are no longer mine alone, but I present them to you freely and willingly. You have given me this life and I offer it back to you.”

As David goes on to say in Psalm 116:14…
“I will keep my promises to the Lord in the presence of all his people.”

I believe David was saying that not only in the privacy of his own heart, but in the presence of the church, he would express his thanksgiving to God and his desire to honor God with all of his life.

I pray that God makes us willing, in the same way as David, to present our lives to Him as a living sacrifice.

David was not concerned for what he would have to “give up” for God. He was so aware of God’s blessing and provision for him, that it was a joy to offer his life and His resources in return.

May God give to us the same revelation that David had.

Thank you God for your incredible salvation!
