Wow, that explains why I can never seem to get done what I want to accomplish each day-NOT!
Paul, in writing his letter to the Corinthian church, talks about how "time has been shortened." Now Paul is not talking about the length of a day, but the fact that we are getting closer to the end of the age in which we live. The end of that age is now 2000 years closer than it was in Paul's day.
A mere 1.26 micro-second does not mean much in the scheme of time, however, 2000 years is a lot more significant.
Paul encouraged those who had wives to...
"be as though they had none," weep "as though they did not weep," rejoice "as though they did not rejoice," buy, "as though they did not possess", and use the world "as though they did not make full use of it" (1 Cor 7:29-31).
What is it that Paul is trying to communicate to us through these verses? We are living in a period of time that the Bible calls the "end of the age." I believe Paul is simply saying that these are urgent times in which we live and we need to consider how we use our time and spend our day.
In Paul's letter to the church in Ephesus, he encourages them to "make the most of your time, because the days are evil" (Eph 5:15-17). Paul is reminding us that we live in the world, we use the things of the world, but we must avoid allowing the things of the world to use us.
Too many Christians have become slaves to all this world offers, its philosophies and the many benefits it provides us. None of these things are necessarily evil, but even that which is good can distract us from what God is calling us to do.
It is easy to allow that activity in our life that is actually discretionary to feel like it is a necessity. These so called necessities then fill our time and distract us from activity that is much more productive to our walk with God.
How do you use your time, spend your day? What discretionary activities do you allow to occupy your time?
What activities that are conducive to spiritual growth can you make room for in your life?
