Saved in 1983, I started my Christian service to kids and families right after that. Which means I have been a children’s pastor through my twenties, thirties, forties, and now at 50. Being around guys like Randy Christensen, Jim Wideman and Bill Wilson has allowed me to see lots of changes in the area of children’s ministry. I feel at times like a children’s ministry pioneer as I watch the new innovations being used. Realize though pioneer is just another word for “old.” It’s been amazing to see the innovation that was then and the innovation that is now.
As a student of creativity, technology, and leadership I continue to learn new things. As a leader I have learned that there is big difference between a manager and a leader. Being a good manager is a part of being an effective leader but the major difference between the two is that leadership calls for innovation. This was a point I brought in a teaching I just gave to a group of young entrepreneurs. It’s what I will be speaking about at our upcoming worker’s meeting. You can’t provide innovation without you being willing to innovate!
I’m sure you’ve heard it a million times “if you always do what you’ve always done, you’ll always have what you’ve always had.” The same action brings same results! Do we really understand innovation? We need to be willing to make changes by introducing new methods, ideas, or products. Are we ready ourselves? Prepared for innovations?
