Hmmm? This is an interesting question. What is God saying?
What is amazing to me is that God, the Creator of this incredible world we live in, desires to communicate with you and me personally. There is an interesting verse in Deuteronomy 4 where the nation of Israel is urged to obey God's Law ...
“For what great nation is there that has a god so near to it as is the LORD our God whenever we call on Him (Deut 4.7)?"
God is a God who listens to and hears the cry of our hearts. He is a personal God who is interested in our lives and desires a relationship with each of us. Paul reiterates the idea that God communicates with His people when he is exhorting the church in Corinth ...
"What is the outcome then, brethren? When you assemble, each one has a psalm, has a teaching, has a revelation, has a tongue, has an interpretation. Let all things be done for edification" (1 Cor 14.26).
When Paul is speaking of coming to a meeting with a psalm, a teaching, a revelation, a tongue, he is acknowledging that God speaks to men. God can speak to us in many ways: through the Bible, dreams, revelations, impressions, other people, and even circumstances. The Bible talks about God speaking to men through creation itself ...
"The heavens are telling of the glory of God; And their expanse is declaring the work of His hands. Day to day pours forth speech, And night to night reveals knowledge" (Psa 19.1-2).
Jesus, when talking to His disciples, said ...
“My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me" (Jn 10.27).
This year may we take time regularly to pause from the busyness of everyday life to talk with God and listen for Him to speak to us.
How do you hear God in your life? What do you do to cultivate an interactive relationship with God?
