What is Truth? That is the name of our current Sunday morning teaching series. The Bible is the only sure and accurate source of truth. Every person bases their decisions and actions on some understanding of the world in which we live. As I mentioned Sunday ...
Actions are always based on what we believe.
That being the case, having a proper understanding of our Christian faith is important. Whether we realize it or not, the philosophies of this age affect our understanding of life in all areas- theology, philosophy, biology, psychology, ethics, sociology, law, politics, economics, and history. I fear that many Christians today do not have a clear understanding of how the philosophies of this age have affected their understanding of life in many of the areas mentioned above. For example, the belief in evolution undermines the sacredness and value of human life. A Christian view of the world acknowledges that all life was created by God and that man specifically was created in the image of God. Evolution maintains that living organisms are merely a matter of chance and have no sacred origin. In this case our understanding of life dramatically affects how we view abortion, euthanasia, the institution of marriage, etc. This ultimately will affect how we vote for our leaders and what those leaders stand for. What is more important, our economic well-being, or where our leaders stand on life issues like abortion, euthanasia, and the institution of marriage?
We must get back to viewing life through the lens of scripture and not through the lens of the philosophies of this age.
"See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception, according to the tradition of men, according to the elementary principles of the world, rather than according to Christ" (Colossians 2:8).
