Now What?

Osama Bin Laden is dead! Many are celebrating his death as a great American victory. Now what?

There certainly is a place for us as a nation to celebrate this victory in the war on terrorism. Many feel like justice has finally been served after ten long years since the attack on the Twin Towers.

As I heard about the death of Osama Bin Laden, two thoughts slowly formed in my mind concerning our response as a nation.

First, I pray that our nation will experience a deep sense of thanksgiving and gratitude for God’s incredible mercy in delivering us from the hands of the enemy. As grateful as I am for the brave Navy Seals that went in and took out Osama Bin Laden, I see this as God’s incredible grace and mercy upon us as a nation. God is sovereign over the affairs of men.

Second, I pray that our nation will experience a deep sense of repentance. As a nation we have sinned in a many ways. In this victory on the war on terrorism, I see God’s incredible kindness towards us as a nation. His mercy far outweighs our sins. May this incredible picture of God’s love toward us bring us to a place of brokenness and repentance for our sins.

How about you? What has God spoken to your heart through this news event? As the world looks on what has happened in the natural, what is God doing and saying in the midst of this situation?

God, we thank you for your incredible love and mercy towards us as a nation. Thank you for protecting the men and women in our military and giving them a great victory. May your hand continue to be upon our nation and may you enable us to fulfill the destiny to which you have called us as a nation. Amen
