As Righteous as God

Most of us are probably familiar with 2 Corinthians 5:18-20 that says we’re ambassadors bringing God’s message of reconciliation, but the truly amazing part is the actual message we’re to give that’s spelled out in verse 21. “For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.” Do we realize what this verse is saying, what an incredible message we have to deliver? God wants to trade His righteousness for your sin. What a deal!
Let me tell you a story to illustrate just how powerful this is. You’ve probably prayed Isaiah 54:17 before, “no weapon formed against me shall prosper...” I was in a situation where I could actually feel the demonic oppression coming against a friend and me as we were interceding over an area of the city. So I prayed Isaiah 54:17, but I prayed it all the way to the end, finishing with “God declares my righteousness”. (Yes, that’s what it says. Look it up.) The oppression immediately ceased. Why? Because I’d claimed my righteousness from God, which meant the enemy had no legal right to me. And what’s more, since I’d pointed out that God said it, if that devil wanted to argue the point, he’d have to take it up with God.

It still blows my mind, and feels impossibly unjust and wrong, but as long as we’re “in Him”, we are the righteousness of God. He is so incredibly merciful, loving and good!
