How Big is Your Sword?

This past Sunday we talked about the spiritual battle that is raging around us between the kingdom of darkness and the kingdom of light. How does this battle affect our lives?

The Bible is very clear that we have a very real spirited enemy who is out to destroy the people of God. As we looked at Sunday, Satan tries to:

blind our minds to the truth,
steal God's Word from our heart,
trap us to do his will, and
hinder us from fulfilling God's purposes.

However, we understand from scripture that:

We have overcome by the blood of the lamb,
greater is He who is in me than who is in the world,
God's plans are to give me a hope and a future, and
He is working out all things for good to those who love God.

As we looked at the spiritual armor and weapons God has given us, two stood out to me:

1. pray at all times in the Spirit and
2. the sword of the Spirit (the Word of God)

I was struck with the reality that I will never be able to wield the sword the way Jesus did in the wilderness, if I do not know God's Word. That will only come as I prayerfully read and study the Bible. If I choose not to read God's word my sword will be no more than a small dagger.

Let me encourage you to make regular reading of the Word of God and prayer an important part of your life.

Trade your dagger for a full length sword and be prepared to stand firm against the attacks of the enemy.
