Comments on the book Reformation Manifesto by Cindy Jacobs
I like the premise of this book that calls for Christians to take the kingdom of God into every sector of our society. We need to see the kingdom of God evident not just in our churches but everywhere that we work and play as well. In the author’s words – “It means to institutionalize God’s will in how we do our daily business, deal with the poor, administer justice, make our laws, teach our children, and generally live our lives.” This a pretty overwhelming call to action for an individual. I certainly have a role in my church, my home, and my workplace but the challenge is to find out if there is a role for me beyond my normal sphere of influence. Knowing that all things are possible with God I am encouraged to pray and seek God’s will for what part I can play in transforming our world.
A couple of quotes that really struck me: “God is the Creator and has established certain laws. It doesn’t matter what I think about them any more than what I think about whether a traffic light should be on a particular street corner or not. What matters is that I stop at the red light because it is the law.”
“There is too often a desire to resist something new God is doing for the sake of traditions that are not found anywhere in the Bible.”
“Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal to you whether your margins of morality are more defined by the society in which you live or by God’s Word.”
