Broken Open

When the people of Israel escaped from their slavery in Egypt, the symbol of their freedom was an innocent lamb slainfor each family. The doorposts of each Jewish home was covered with blood.

In Colossians 1:15, Paul says that Jesus is, "the first-born of all creation." Jesus came as the representative of the entire human family. He came to save all of mankind and lead them out of Egypt and their slavery to sin and death. The doorposts of creation are covered with the blood of Jesus Christ, the lamb that was slain for the world.Through Jesus Christ, God is reconciling all of creation to Himself.

As believeres we are the Body of Christ. God continues to give life to the world through the Body of Christ as we present ourselves as a "living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is our spiritual service of worship (Romans 12:1).

As the church and indivdual members of the Body of Christ, our lives are to be poured out for the healing of the world. As the woman broke her alabaster bottle and poured its contents out upon Jesus, we are called by God to be broken open and pour our lives out to help others. In Hebrews 10:24 it says that we are to "stimulate one another to love and good deeds." The phrase "good deeds" comes from the Hebrew word mitzvot, which refers to actions taken to heal and repair the world (Rob Bell).

Our destiny is to use whatever resources we have received from God, whatever gifts or talents He has deposited within us, to be a source of encouragement and help to people in the world around us.

  1. We were dead men and women when He poured His water of life into us. If we keep this water inside, it will spoil and be on no use to us or to others. It is Living Water and needs to move through us to others. Sandy H

  2. Amen! We get so caught up in doing all the good Christian things we think we should be doing. And we ask God to pour Himself out. But how often do we pour ourselves out to others in worship to Him. How often do we lift others up? That's the meaning of life afterall.
