A Wonderful Journey

The Bible is filled with profound truth. This is particularly significant because we are living in a culture that no longer believes that truth is absolute. Very little is black and white. Truth, or lack of truth, is found in the eyes of the beholder.

Jesus made a clear statement about truth ...

So Jesus was saying to those Jews who had believed Him, “If you continue in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine; and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.” (John 8.31-32)

The key to understanding truth is found when we continue or abide "in My word." I like what Steve Backlund says about truth ...

"We are not transformed just by reading the Bible, but having our minds renewed with its truths."

Steve makes a distinction between believing in Jesus and believing like Jesus. It is knowing the truth that sets us free in everyday life experiences. As we know the truth we not only believe in Jesus, but we come to believe like Jesus.

Too often we look for some supernatural encounter to suddenly make things right for us. God, on the other hand, is waiting for us to believe His Word is true and allowing that truth to change the way we think about God and the events of everyday life. Knowing and understanding truth leads us to believe like Jesus, not just believe in Jesus.

I believe the Lord is encouraging us to bring our thoughts into alignment with the truth we find in the Bible. We will truly find freedom when we believe truth in every area of our lives, from provision, to healing, to understanding who we are in Christ. Without a clear understanding of truth we will find ourselves enslaved by lies.

God has called us into a wonderful relationship with Him and set us on an exciting journey to understanding more about who He is and more about truth.

In what ways have you allowed God's Word to shape your understanding of life? In what ways has the truth "set you free?"
